Borovets

Borovets is the first and the largest winter resort in Bulgaria. It is a place of great popularity and is located at 1350m elevation on the slopes pf the Rila Mountain. The resort is surrounded by old pine woods and is not far from peak Moussala, which is at 2925m elevation – the highest one on the Balkan Peninsula.
Due to the fact that Borovets is only 73km away from Sofia and 126km from Plovdiv, it is very easily reachable and attractive. Samokov is only 10km away, and from it there is regular transportation to the resort. Borovets is a heaven not only for the skiers, but also for the hikers during the summer.

 

Skiing in Borovets

During winter the climate in Borovets is mild and of course with loads of great snow for the ski lovers. The average temperature in the coldest month - January is 4.8 º degrees C. Usually the pistes of Borovets have good snow base from middle December till April.
The excellent facilities for winter sports bring here thousands of ski and mountain lovers from Bulgaria and all around the world each year. There are forty-five km of slopes from different difficulty levels and length ski, combined in 3 areas: Sitnqkovo - Martinovi Baraki slopes; Markudjik- four runs and Qstrebec - three pistes. Borovets is a traditional host of different winter sports competitions; the resort has twice hosted World Cup competitions in Alpine skiing and its biathlon track is one of the best across Europe.

Borovets is a modern winter sports resort with various class hotels, many restaurants, shops, discos, and excellent variety of pistes and lift facilities. It offers excellent conditions and facilities for snow sports: skiing / night skiing, snowboarding, ski jumps, biathlon, cross-country skiing, etc.; and of course great hiking trails and various attractions during the summer as well.
Borovets ski center is serviced by perfectly organized lift system - two chair lifts, six drags, a gondola, few baby drag lifts, as well as fourteen snow cannons for artificial snow, which guarantee the snow base if needed.
There are ski and snowboard rentals near the Gondola station with good variety of winter sport equipment and Borovec ski school is known as one of the best in the country - there are over two hundred professional ski instructors, fluent in foreign languages.

 

Borovets Apres Ski

Borovets is offers excellent choice of bars and restaurants, cafes, discos and night clubs. The night life is great and the resort, along with Bansko is known as the most attractive ski center regarding party time. Borovets has been catering for tourists from around the world for many years, with friendly and professional staffs. Most of the clubs and discos are open till the early morning, and offer good prices, mostly dance music and often organize special shows and programmes. There are also many traditional restaurants and taverns with Bulgarian folk music, offering great fun, as well as the popular Bulgarian dance “horo”, which most foreign visitors find very interesting.
